In response to: New Bus Lines - Cheaper, With Wireless, & One Takes Bikes!
I agree that Tripper Bus (Tripperbus.com) is certainly accommodating with its luggage storage. It is nice to have room to enjoy the ride. I often bring my laptop and get caught up on simple work stuff during the commute from DC to NYC. They keep a new fleet of buses that are clean and more comfortable.
In response to: Another Negative Showers Pass Touring Jacket Review
The same thing happened to my Showers Pass Touring jacket! They did replace it, but the laminate portion on the replacement has started tearing again, so I’m looking for a different jacket.
I also agree that the black portions of the jacket just aren’t waterproof. Sure, most people don’t bike for hours in the rain, but people who tour do.
The next jacket *might* be another Showers Pass, since I’ve never had any problem with the yellow portion of the jacket, but I’m a little annoyed that their touring jacket was advertised as such without actually being suitable for the job.
I’m not sure why so few cycling jackets have front pockets. Ah well.
In response to: Another Negative Showers Pass Touring Jacket Review
I had a Showers Pass rain jacket that was wonderful, until it was washed. My wife washed it following their care directions to the letter. It experienced total failure. I was soaked to the skin within a few minutes of rain starting.
Showers Pass said they would replace it, but have reneged saying it is “too used.” This expensive jacket was 10 months at complete waterproofing failure.
In response to: Cyclist Safety: Bike Lanes Help; Parking Hurts; Multiuse Paths Will Be The Death of Me Yet
What we’ve seen in DC is that bike lanes/cycletracks + bike share dramatically increases the use of bicycle for transportation. The more bikes on the road, the safer the environment is for cyclists.
In response to: Obama Rides A Bike
@freewheel - well, maybe I somehow goofed. I commented, filled in the name etc., and hit the button, but the comment didn’t appear. I assumed you were moderating them. I’ll try again soon.

Just like all of those other commie cyclist types when they pass me in traffic. : )
(BTW, did my comment on your Kingsolver post get to you?)

The idea is to swing those voters who think that he hates America and wants to take away their guns. So, it’s actually brilliant strategy.

Guess that pretty much decides how I will vote next year. . . other wins!
What utter, total, TOTAL bullshit.
In response to: "Did Emily Snyder Sign Off On The City Park Bike Detour?"
Wait and see. Maybe things are still in flux. I doubt she would have signed off on that thing. It must be Parks. Wouldn’t surprise me to hear that Emily is fighting to get it changed and that we’ll see something new today or tomorrow. (No I don’t have any inside information.)

Someone can be a cupcake without being a James.
I’d say “cupcake” based on the question you asked in the last post and the detour map. How can a bike planner approve a detour like that?

@jsullivan - e-mailed the map to you. I hear that perhaps the route is being re-considered.

It’s not on the city’s website.

Where is this map you guys are talking about?

Looking at this map, why not take the detour east of the lake? They’d have to do something around the gate there, but that would avoid more of the zoo construction and the idiotic one way street problem.
And no backtracking to Steele and just a little to Harrison.
Looking like a cupcake to me.

I just got a copy of the detour – final? Would our inimitable bike planner really sign off on something so lousy? Following this would get you arrested in someplace like Denver. Cant go the wrong way down a one way street in Denver.
Oh, wait, this is Denver.
Parks or Public Works or Planner’s Personality? So much blame, where should it be placed? Hmmm. Send me your thoughts.

Hey. Thanks for posting the note!
@Sam. The bike route of the month thing is funny indeed.

Sorry. Left that out the first time.

Hey! Check it out! The bike planner’s ride of the month includes the blocked road. She wasn’t exactly on top of things on this one. Lol.
